Italy's Green Commitment Takes Center Stage at COP28

Italy is poised to showcase its commitment to sustainability at COP28 through the event "Sustainab-ITALY: Italian Proposals for a Greener Future," organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA). Scheduled for December 6 at the Italian Pavilion within the Blue Zone, the session will feature a panel discussion highlighting Italy's prowess in sustainable technology and innovation. The event underscores Italy's dedication to driving innovation and technology for a sustainable future, as outlined in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan 2023. Italy has become a global leader in sustainable practices, evident in its surge in exports to the UAE, indicating a rising international demand for Italy's expertise in renewable energy components and solutions. In 2022, Italy became the sixth-largest provider of components for renewable energy installations in the UAE, contributing EUR 134 million. This positioned Italy as a crucial supporter of the UAE's transition to sustainable energy sources. The momentum continued in H1 2023, with Italian exports surpassing EUR 90 million, marking a significant 51% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Lorenzo Fanara, Ambassador of Italy to the UAE, expressed pride in representing Italy at COP28, emphasizing key sectors such as renewable energy, waste recycling, and hydrogen solutions. Italy aims to achieve a remarkable 40% utilization of renewables by 2040, showcasing excellence and promoting cutting-edge technologies. Lorenzo Galanti, Director General of ITA, highlighted Italy's leadership in circular economy practices, allocating over EUR 2 billion for efficient strategies in the renewable energy sector. Italy globally exported green technologies amounting to EUR 65.5 billion in 2022, with a 12.7% year-on-year increase. The export of environmental goods in H1 2023 saw further growth, reaching EUR 40.5 billion, a substantial 7.6% increase. Two panels during the event will focus on Italian innovations in renewable energy, waste recycling, sustainable construction, and hydrogen solutions. The discussions will delve into Italy's technological excellence, challenges and opportunities in waste recycling, sustainable construction practices, and the current landscape of hydrogen solutions. The second panel will spotlight successful collaborations fostered through partnerships with Italian companies, sharing insights and experiences from industry leaders. The aim is not only to highlight achievements but also to inspire further cooperation toward building a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
