North Kalimantan's Native Exports Reach USD 131.77 Million

In October 2023, the original exports of North Kalimantan (Kaltara) reached USD 131.77 million, marking a 0.70% increase compared to September 2023. This data, compiled by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of North Kalimantan, highlights a significant contribution to the export surge from the industrial sector, which rose to USD 31.74 million, indicating a substantial 59.53% increase. However, the mining sector experienced an 8.98% decline, reaching USD 98.03 million, and the agricultural sector saw a decrease to USD 2.01 million, down by 38.36%. Mas’ud Rifai, Head of BPS North Kalimantan, stated that a portion of the total exports in October 2023, approximately USD 5.30 million, was conducted through ports outside North Kalimantan. These include ports in DKI Jakarta (USD 0.0019 million), East Java (Jatim) (USD 3.98 million), and South Sulawesi (Sulsel) (USD 1.31 million).

Simultaneously, exports through ports in North Kalimantan in October 2023 increased by 181.46% compared to September 2023, totaling USD 383.38 million. The commodities exported through North Kalimantan's ports in October 2023 were predominantly non-oil and gas. The export value of non-oil and gas commodities from January to October 2023 reached USD 2,389.76 million, reflecting an 11.88% increase compared to the same period in 2022. The export growth in October 2023, compared to September 2023, was fueled by a rise in the export of non-oil and gas mining products by 203.95%, agricultural products by 70.96%, and industrial output by 71.55%, as mentioned by Rifai. Major export destinations through North Kalimantan's ports in October 2023 were India, China, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and the Philippines, with values of USD 105.00 million, USD 102.09 million, USD 31.09 million, USD 29.97 million, and USD 28.60 million, respectively. These five countries accounted for 77.40% of total exports in October 2023. Compared to September 2023, most countries experienced an increase in exports, including India, China, Bangladesh, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. No importing country witnessed a decrease in the quantity of Kaltara's commodity exports. Additionally, imports to Kaltara in October 2023 increased by 116.89% compared to September 2023, totaling USD 98.64 million. The import value for oil and gas commodities amounted to USD 0.0014 million, while non-oil and gas commodities reached USD 98.64 million. This import growth was driven by an increase in the value of imported industrial goods, reaching USD 98.04 million, a notable 117.31% surge.
