European Investors Strengthen Partnership Through Indonesia Europe Investment Summit 2023

The European Business Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (EuroCham) collaborated with the European Union Delegation to Indonesia to organize the Indonesia Europe Investment Summit 2023 (IEIS) on November 30, 2023. With the theme 'Capturing Crucial Momentum Towards Indonesia Emas 2045,' the event drew 350 participants from Indonesia and European countries. Francois de Maricourt, Chairman of EuroCham Indonesia, emphasized that the summit aimed to fortify partnerships between European businesses and Indonesia. It provided an opportunity for European investors in Indonesia to showcase their impact and contributions to the Indonesian government's vision of Indonesia Emas 2045. Maricourt expressed EuroCham's commitment to supporting Indonesia's vision through direct foreign investments by EuroCham members, particularly in sectors contributing significantly to Indonesia's GDP, such as manufacturing, enhancing value chains in the metal industry, and the consumer sector.

Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia Denis Chaibi underscored the EU's support for the expansion of European companies in Indonesia to aid the country's development. Strengthening trade relations with Indonesia is one way to achieve this goal. Ambassador Chaibi highlighted the joint commitment of the EU and Indonesia to finalize the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to maximize two-way trade and support Indonesia's economic growth. Ambassador Chaibi noted that for over 35 years, the EU has been an active key partner in supporting Indonesia's economic growth and development. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, trade and investment remain pivotal in the EU-Indonesia partnership. In 2022, the EU became Indonesia's fifth-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade amounting to 32.6 billion Euros, a 32% increase from the previous year. Foreign direct investments from the EU reached 20.4 billion Euros, indicating the resilience of the EU-Indonesia economic relationship. Upon the completion of the EU-Indonesia CEPA, it is projected to significantly boost Indonesia's exports to the EU by 17.7%. The agreement aims to enhance the well-being and GDP of Indonesia by 3.2 billion Euros and 5.2 billion Euros, respectively, annually. Ambassador Chaibi expressed pride in the strengthening economic ties and affirmed the EU's ongoing partnership with Indonesia in realizing the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.
