Throughout this year, Morotai Island has successfully exported 1,213 tons of tuna, establishing itself as the leading tuna exporting region in North Maluku. The announcement came from Yoppy Jutan, the Head of the Marine and Fisheries Agency of Morotai Island, on Monday (27/11/2023). Jutan proudly stated, "Today, we exported 534 tons of tuna to Vietnam." In pursuit of fostering relationships and bolstering regional revenue through the Regional Original Income (PAD) sector, Jutan revealed plans to expand exports to other Asian and Southeast Asian countries. "The PAD generated so far amounts to IDR 1.2 billion, and we anticipate it to reach IDR 1.5 billion by December," he expressed his hopes.
Expressing gratitude to the Director of Sea Traffic, Ministry of Transportation, the Director of Business, Sea Toll, and the Logistics Director of the Directorate General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Products, Jutan conveyed Morotai's readiness to support various strategic programs as a mandated center for National Strategic Activities. This achievement underscores Morotai's pivotal role in the tuna export industry, contributing not only to local economic growth but also establishing stronger ties with international markets. The commitment to expanding export destinations aligns with Morotai's vision to become a significant player in the regional and global seafood trade.
