As of the latest update, Indonesia's tourism sector has contributed significantly to the country's economic landscape, with tourism revenue reaching USD 10.46 billion, according to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno. This surge in tourism revenue corresponds to a 3.83% contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the third quarter of 2023. Minister Sandiaga revealed these figures during a working meeting with the Committee III of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia. The minister also highlighted a noteworthy increase in the number of international tourist arrivals, reaching 8.51 million visits. This figure has undergone two revisions, initially set at 7.4 million, then revised to 8.5 million, and now there are indications that it might surpass the 10 million mark.
Sandiaga emphasised that these achievements have surpassed the initial targets, particularly the goal of 7.4 million tourist arrivals. In addition, he expressed the ambition to elevate Indonesia's Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) to rank among the top 30 globally by 2024. Looking ahead, Minister Sandiaga urged collaboration between the Committee III of DPD RI to position the tourism sector as a catalyst for economic revival and job creation in Indonesia. He emphasised the importance of collective efforts to achieve the target of creating 4.4 million new job opportunities by 2024. In response to these accomplishments, Hasan Basri, Chairman of Committee III DPD RI, commended the achievements and the realisation of programs under the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy up to the third quarter of 2023. He expressed support for strengthening programs, activities, and budgets for 2024, focusing on strategic plans that promote even distribution and stimulate the growth of tourism and the creative economy throughout Indonesia.
