Gunungkidul Investment Surpasses Target, Reaching IDR 451 Billion

The Department of Investment and Integrated Licensing (DPMPTSP) in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, has reported a notable achievement in investment, surpassing the set target for the period from January to mid-November 2023. The recorded investment in the region reached IDR 451 billion, exceeding the 2023 target of IDR 447 billion. Agung Danarto, the Head of DPMPTSP Gunungkidul, attributed the success in achieving the investment target to the streamlined permit services implemented by the department. The commitment to providing ease of licensing contributed significantly to the positive outcome. In 2021, the target investment was set at IDR 261 billion, with actual realisation reaching IDR 282.8 billion. Similarly, in 2022, the investment surpassed the target of IDR 341 billion, reaching a substantial amount of IDR 634.5 billion. Investors have shown a particular interest in the coastal areas, with the smooth operation of the South Coast Crossroad (JJLS) being a key factor. This trend aligns with the previous years, where investment values in 2021 and 2022 also exceeded the set targets.

Agung expressed optimism about the improving investment trend in Gunungkidul, prompting the local government to set a higher investment target for the coming year. The target for the next year is raised from IDR 447 billion to IDR 586 billion. The majority of the investments are directed towards the tourism sector, reflecting the region's potential in this industry. The increasing investment aligns with the local government's focus on enhancing the well-being of the community through priority programs in local economy development and tourism. Bupati Gunungkidul, Sunaryanta, envisions the establishment of an internationally standardised tourism cluster or area. This strategic move aims to boost the region's local revenue continuously. While currently, investors are primarily inclined towards the southern tourism sector, Sunaryanta hopes to attract investments in the northern region as well. However, this expansion requires support in terms of infrastructure and other aspects. The local government is keen on open to and facilitating investments, but cautious considerations are made, especially given the unique land ownership dynamics in Gunungkidul. Sunaryanta emphasised the commitment to providing a favourable environment for investors while adhering to legal regulations.
