Italy Emerges as a Key Player in Pomegranate Exports

In a noteworthy shift, an increasing number of European and extra-European operators, as well as supermarket chains, are turning to Italy for their pomegranate purchases. This trend marks a departure from the traditional sources like Spain and Turkey, signifying a growing trust in Italy's reliability as a supplier. The positive feedback on the fruit further reinforces Italy's position as a sought-after interlocutor for planning seasonal acquisitions. Masseria Fruttirossi, the leading pomegranate producer in Italy, has been a significant contributor to this changing landscape. Currently experiencing substantial growth, the company has expanded its reach, recently resuming shipments to the Arab Emirates. A staggering 50% of its sales are now directed to international markets, showcasing Italy's prowess as a structured supplier capable of consistently meeting demand. Sales manager Dario De Lisi attributes this success to the company's ability to outperform traditional foreign suppliers. Masseria Fruttirossi ensures a steady supply from early September to March, delivering to countries such as Germany, Switzerland, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Arab Emirates, and Canada.

The first shipment of Wonderful pomegranates to the Arab Emirates signifies a strategic effort to strengthen ties with the Arab Gulf. With two monthly deliveries already planned and increased quantities agreed upon compared to the previous season, the company is capitalising on the preferences of foreign consumers. Notably, foreign markets favor larger pomegranate sizes exceeding 500 grams, a distinction from the medium-small grades (350-500 grams) typically sold in the domestic market. Despite the higher cost of Italian pomegranates compared to foreign competitors, buyers seem undeterred. As the festive season approaches, Masseria Fruttirossi is gearing up for a surge in Christmas supply planning, anticipating a 15% increase in deliveries. Pomegranates, associated with good luck, gain particular popularity during this period. Several chains are already securing Christmas boxes containing Magnum pomegranates, a sizable 13x13.5 cm box available in two colours, each containing fruits weighing 850 grams and 1.1 kg. Notably, these festive boxes double as Christmas ornaments, adding a festive touch to the season.
