Mining Sector Dominates Investments in South Kalimantan, Surpassing IDR 3 Trillion in Q3

The mining sector continues to be the primary contributor to the revenue of the South Kalimantan Provincial Government. Investment realization figures for the period of July to September 2023 indicate that mining holds the top position in both domestic (PMDN) and foreign (PMA) capital investments. The Investment and Integrated One-Stop Service Agency (DPMPTSP) of South Kalimantan recorded that the realization of mining investments in the third quarter of this year reached IDR 1.94 trillion or 62.14% for PMDN, with the largest PMDN located in Tanahbumbu. For PMA, the mining realization touched IDR 1.11 trillion or 64.39%, with the largest PMA investment found in Kotabaru. Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China were the leading foreign investors in South Kalimantan. In total, investment realization in South Kalimantan for the third quarter of 2023 reached IDR 4.86 trillion. From this total, PMDN accounted for IDR 3.13 trillion, and PMA amounted to IDR 1.73 trillion. With these achievements, South Kalimantan ranks 14th for PMDN and 20th for PMA nationally.

Apart from mining, other sectors leading PMA realization in South Kalimantan include the food industry with a value of IDR 198.4 billion or 11.46%. Additionally, the basic metals industry, non-machinery metal goods, and equipment accounted for IDR 169.9 billion or 9.82%, followed by transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications at IDR 122 billion or 7.05%, and the food crops, plantations, and livestock sector at IDR 38.3 billion or 2.21%. For PMDN, the trade and repair sector ranked below mining with a figure of IDR 316.9 billion, followed by food crops, plantations, and livestock at IDR 294.7 billion or 9.41%. Hotels and restaurants reached IDR 182.4 billion or 5.82%, and transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications at IDR 110.3 billion or 3.52%. Cumulatively from January to September, investment realization in South Kalimantan reached IDR 13.7 trillion, representing 90% of the targeted IDR 15.22 trillion. Despite the target variance, officials see this as a positive trend, expressing optimism about achieving even more favorable investment outcomes by the end of the year.
