Indonesia's Automotive Export Performance Improves, Surging by 11.1%

The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) reports a notable improvement in the performance of domestically produced vehicles, reflecting positive growth in the period of September-October 2023. The export of Completely Built-Up (CBU) units in October 2023 reached 46,875 units, marking a robust growth of 11.1% compared to the previous month's figure of 42,186 units. Cumulatively, the total exports for the first ten months of the current year reached 426,381 units, aligning with the association's expectations and targeting an increase in export figures compared to 2022. Compared to the same period last year, CBU car exports amounted to 384,592 units, indicating a substantial increase of 10.8%. Gaikindo expresses optimism that the minimum export target of 500,000 CBU units can be achieved.

"We strive to continue increasing, hopefully reaching 500,000 units. However, it is important to note that we are already self-sufficient in meeting domestic car needs, and secondly, Indonesia, with last year's production, ranked 11th in the world," explained Kukuh Kumara, the Secretary-General of Gaikindo. The export performance is a collaborative effort involving 11 companies, with Daihatsu leading the pack by shipping 135,749 units to a combination of Daihatsu, Toyota, and Mazda destinations. Toyota follows closely with 112,572 units, and Mitsubishi, combined with Nissan, contributes 69,067 units. Hyundai achieves an export figure of 44,114 units, succeeded by Suzuki with 33,932 units. Honda contributes 22,111 units, followed by Isuzu with 5,756 units. Handal Indonesia Motor exports 1,525 units of Hyundai H-1 vehicles. Wuling, DFSK, and Hino follow suit, each sending 1,214, 226, and 115 units, respectively. The increasing export figures are a testament to Indonesia's commitment to sustaining and nurturing this growth. Initially exporting to 80 countries, the nation now targets nearly 100 destination countries for the export of CBU-produced vehicles from Indonesia.
