The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Papua Province reports that China is one of the six major destinations for exports, with a value of USD 138.38 million in October 2023, primarily consisting of metal ore, slag, and ash (HS26). Adriana Helena Carolina, the Head of BPS Papua, stated on November 15, 2023, in Jayapura that neighboring Papua New Guinea also received exports from Papua, amounting to USD 0.08 million in October 2023. Despite a 13.02% decrease from September 2023, where exports to the six main countries amounted to USD 556.89 million compared to USD 640.26 million, Adriana highlighted a cumulative increase in Papua's exports to these countries during January-October 2023. The total value reached USD 4,083.67 million, indicating a growth of 12.31% compared to the same period in 2022, which recorded USD 3,636.13 million in exports. Adriana explained that while exports to other countries from Papua experienced a decline of 36.55%, dropping from USD 1,591.85 million in January-October 2022 to USD 1,010.06 million in the same period of 2023, exports to the six major countries contributed significantly, accounting for 80.17% of Papua's total exports from January to October 2023.
Moreover, the October 2023 export figure for Papua was USD 611.21 million, reflecting a 20.77% decrease compared to the previous month's value of USD 771.41 million. The breakdown indicates that non-oil and gas exports constituted USD 611.21 million, while oil and gas exports amounted to USD 15 million. This data illustrates the dynamic nature of Papua's export landscape, with China being a prominent trade partner and the six major countries playing a pivotal role in Papua's overall export performance.
