Tourism Revenue Exceeds USD 6 Billion, Boosting Indonesia's Economy

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, announced that tourism revenue for the third quarter of 2023 has surpassed the set targets, reaching over USD 6 billion, with a contribution of 3.76% to the tourism sector's GDP. This achievement surpasses the specified targets of a minimum of USD 2.07 billion and a maximum of USD 5.95 billion. In a statement received in Jakarta on November 15, 2023, Sandiaga mentioned that the export value of creative economy (ekraf) products also reached USD 11.82 billion, contributing to an added value of IDR 691.75 trillion. Furthermore, as of November 14, Indonesia is positioned at 32 in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI), with an anticipated climb to the top 30. The workforce in the tourism and creative economy sector has exceeded expectations, employing over 45 million people, consisting of 21.93 million in tourism and 24.34 million in the creative economy.

Regarding international tourists, the targeted number was 8.5 million visits, and by September 2023, the actual number had already reached 8.51 million. In recognition of these achievements, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy received the highest performance score among the seven ministries and agencies coordinated by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves), scoring 100 for supporting priority targets and 98.5 for supporting priority projects. Meanwhile, domestic tourism movement as of September 2023 reached 50%, approximately 626 million movements out of the total target of 1.2–1.4 billion movements. Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Angela Tanoesoedibjo, added that the expenditure realization for the 2023 fiscal year as of November 12, 2023, reached 73.43%, amounting to IDR 2.5 trillion out of the total budget of IDR 3.42 trillion. The realization of national priority programs by the same date was IDR 1.2 trillion or 70.57% of the total national priority budget of IDR 1.74 trillion.
