The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) is encouraging various regions in Indonesia to develop local varieties to increase national production. Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has called on regional leaders to oversee this year's rice production. Minister Amran aspires for Indonesia to achieve food self-sufficiency, reducing its reliance on import policies. He revealed that the world is currently facing a food crisis, with some countries experiencing famine, and others suspending exports due to weather changes.m"We must, inevitably, aim for self-sufficiency and stand on our own two feet. Why? Because Indonesia can optimize its potential," said Minister Amran some time ago.
In line with Minister Amran's direction, the Head of the Plant Variety Protection and Agricultural Licensing Center (Pusat PVTPP) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Leli Nuryati, is pushing for more development of local varieties. Most recently, PVTPP awarded a certificate for the registration of an excellent variety named Dharma Nina Ayu (DNA) during a harvest festival held in the Wanasari Village, Bangodua Subdistrict, Indramayu, West Java.
