Southeast Sulawesi's Export Value Reaches IDR 38.78 Trillion

Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) has been a significant supplier of goods to foreign markets. Indeed, from January to August 2023, the export value reached IDR 38.78 trillion. This substantial amount has been generated through the export of 11 commodities sourced from the "Bumi Anoa" (Anoa Earth) region to various countries worldwide. In the past eight months of this year (2023), the export value of Sultra has reached 2.77 billion USD or approximately IDR 38.78 trillion. When compared to the same period in January to August 2022, there has been a 21% decrease in the export value, stated the Head of the Department of Industry and Trade (Perindag) of Southeast Sulawesi Province. Export value nearing IDR 40 trillion in 2023 can be attributed to eleven commodities. These commodities include ferronickel/NPI, stainless steel, frozen skipjack tuna, vannamei shrimp, canned crab meat, mud crabs, fresh grouper, fresh king mackerel, fresh red snapper, frozen clams, and natural asphalt.

Throughout the first eight months of 2023, these numerous commodities from Southeast Sulawesi have been exported to seven countries, namely China, Japan, the United States, Singapore, India, and Korea. China stands out as the leading recipient of Sultra's exports. The commodities exported to China consist of ferronickel, stainless steel, and natural asphalt, totaling approximately 1.5 million tons with a value of around 2.74 billion USD. South Korea ranks second in terms of the highest volume of exports. Approximately 2,103 tons of commodities, including stainless steel and frozen clams, have been exported to South Korea. India takes third place, with ferronickel being exported in quantities of 1,467 tons, valued at 28.354 million USD. Japan, the United States, and Singapore specialise in the export of seafood products. For example, Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun, has received exports of frozen skipjack tuna and vannamei shrimp, amounting to 198.53 tons with a value of around 1.45 million USD. Meanwhile, the United States has imported frozen skipjack tuna and canned crab meat in quantities of 136.12 tons, valued at 2.21 million USD. Singapore, on the other hand, has received seafood commodities from Sultra, including mud crabs, fresh grouper, fresh king mackerel, and fresh red snapper, totaling 100.23 tons with a value of 341,766 USD. Southeast Sulawesi still possesses many potential exportable products to various countries. These products extend beyond fisheries and mining, including plantation products, livestock, agricultural produce, and industrial processed goods.
