Indonesian Fisheries Targets USD 28 Million in Exports to China by 2024

PT Perikanan Indonesia, a member of ID FOOD, is making efforts to boost fishery product exports with the aim of increasing tax revenue and dividends for the state. The company's export map spans several countries, including the USA, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. Sigit Muhartono, the President Director of Perikanan Indonesia, stated that the company aims to export USD 28 million worth of seafood products to China by 2024. This target is calculated based on the production capacity at 18 branch offices and Perindo units with a portfolio of Fish Processing and Trading. Sigit explained that Perikanan Indonesia already has a captive seafood market in China through partnerships with Freshippo (Alibaba Group) and Vanguard. These two buyers are the largest retailers in China, ranking first and second with annual seafood sales of USD 3.8 billion. To capitalise on these opportunities, Perikanan Indonesia will seriously explore the possibility of establishing a representative office in China. This is aimed at achieving a larger market penetration with a broader reach in China.

In addition to Perikanan Indonesia, other state-owned enterprises (BUMN) that attended the Indonesia-China Business Forum include PLN, MIND ID, ANTAM, Krakatau Steel, KAI, INKA, Pelindo, Perindo, BNI, Mandiri, Telkom, Danareksa, Biofarma, Pertamina, and Bulog. Sigit further explained that Indonesia is continuously strengthening the fisheries sector by engaging with three Chinese companies during the Indonesia-China Business Forum. Perikanan Indonesia has partnered with three Chinese companies to advance the fisheries industry. This collaboration was marked by the signing of memoranda of understanding between Perikanan Indonesia and Zhejiang Ocean Fisheries Co., Ltd and China Sam Enterprise Group Limited regarding the operational cooperation plan for sustainable fishing. Additionally, there was an agreement with Shanghai Seafirst Co., Ltd for the development of integrated fisheries product businesses. Perikanan Indonesia plays a crucial and strategic role in the sustainability of the entire fisheries business, from upstream to downstream. By maximising the substantial fishery potential, which includes a catch of 12 million tons of fish annually, Perikanan Indonesia manages fishery ports and processes, produces, and markets fishery products for both domestic and international markets. Perikanan Indonesia also operates fish feed factories to supply the needs of fishermen.
