Indonesia's Export Value in September 2023 Reaches USD 20.76 Billion

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has reported that Indonesia's export value in September 2023 reached USD 20.76 billion, marking a 5.63% decline compared to August 2023. Compared to September 2022, export value dropped by 16.17%. Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, the Acting Head of BPS, stated on Monday, October 16, 2023, that non-oil and gas exports in September 2023 amounted to USD 19.35 billion, a decrease of 6.41% compared to August 2023 and a 17.66% decline when compared to non-oil and gas exports in September 2022. The most significant decrease in non-oil and gas exports in September 2023 compared to August 2023 was in the category of animal/vegetable fats and oils, amounting to USD 601.1 million (20.54%). Meanwhile, the most substantial increase was seen in iron and steel, reaching USD 78.6 million (3.51%).

Cumulatively, Indonesia's export value from January to September 2023 amounted to USD 192.27 billion, a decrease of 12.34% compared to the same period in 2022. Non-oil and gas exports reached USD 180.48 billion, representing a 12.89% decline. In terms of sectors, non-oil and gas exports from manufacturing industries for January to September 2023 decreased by 10.86% compared to the same period in 2022. Similarly, exports from agriculture, forestry, and fisheries decreased by 9.03%, while mining and other sectors saw a decline of 19.83%. The largest destination for non-oil and gas exports in September 2023 was China, totaling USD 5.17 billion, followed by the United States at USD 1.84 billion and India at USD 1.50 billion, with their combined contribution reaching 43.97%. Furthermore, Amalia mentioned that exports to ASEAN and the European Union (27 countries) were USD 3.49 billion and USD 1.33 billion, respectively. Based on the province of origin, Indonesia's largest exports from January to September 2023 came from West Java with a value of USD 27.64 billion (14.37%), followed by East Kalimantan with USD 21.16 billion (11.01%) and East Java with USD 16.21 billion (8.43%).
