The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) has released the export performance report for the August 2023 period. The results indicate a significant increase in the export of meat and processed fish commodities. Agnes Widiastuti, the Head of BPS Sultra, reported that meat and processed fish commodities have experienced a noteworthy increase, amounting to USD 0.91 million, up from USD 0.02 million in July 2023, reaching USD 0.92 million in August 2023, representing a 5,127.25% surge. The most substantial increase in Southeast Sulawesi's exports in August 2023 occurred in meat and processed fish commodities. Furthermore, she explained that the significant rise in these commodities (meat and processed fish) has contributed to the overall improvement in the region's export performance in the August 2023 period.
The export performance of Southeast Sulawesi for the August 2023 period was recorded at USD 396.89 million, marking a 51.44% increase compared to the previous month's exports, which stood at only USD 262.08 million. Agnes added that, in addition to meat and processed fish commodities, four other categories of goods have supported Sultra's export performance in the August 2023 period. These categories include iron and steel, contributing USD 392.08 million, fish and shrimp at USD 3.41 million, oilseeds at USD 0.42 million, and mineral fuels (BBM) at USD 0.05 million. The Agency hopes that Southeast Sulawesi's export performance continues to grow positively, thereby supporting regional economic growth.
