Indonesia, rich in ornamental plant resources, presents a promising opportunity for profitable business development. Furthermore, the domestic and international markets for ornamental plants remain wide open. To be effective, marketing of ornamental plants can be carried out through social media. This was revealed during a talk show with the theme "Business Opportunities in Sansevieria Plants" on the third day of the FLOII (Floriculture Indonesia International) Expo 2023. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the export value of Indonesian ornamental plants has been steadily increasing since the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, in 2021, Indonesia exported 20,300 tons of ornamental plants, marking an 11.5% increase from 2020. The export value also increase to USD 21.9 million in 2021. The domestic ornamental plant industry in Indonesia is also promising. Production of several types of ornamental plants in the country remains high. For example, in 2022, there were 6.79 million stems of cut orchids produced, 2.07 million stems of anthuriums, 169.1 million stems of roses, and 118.32 million stems of tuberose. Java continues to be a major production center for these various ornamental plants.
There are numerous Sansevieria varieties in Indonesia, also known as the mother-in-law's tongue plant. The European market has a significant interest in Sansevieria plants, and there are numerous varieties available in Indonesia. After the talk show, an auction of ornamental plants for Aglaonema and Sansevieria sessions was opened. All 14 types of plants were sold at the auction, with the highest price reaching IDR 36 million. By the third day of the FLOII Expo 2023, eight talk shows and two workshops had already been held. Additionally, 317 students from the Indonesian Agricultural Engineering Polytechnic visited the FLOII Expo 2023 to enhance their knowledge and skills. FLOII Expo 2023 is expected to attract ornamental plant enthusiasts, cultivators, traders, and experts. More than just an exhibition, FLOII Expo 2023 aims to promote the ornamental plant industry and build a community that cares about the beauty of nature. FLOII Expo 2023 is the result of collaboration between Dyandra Event Solutions, the Indonesian Aroid Society, and the Indonesian Floriculture Enthusiasts (PFI), with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia.
