Exports Exceed USD 3 Billion, National Jewelry Industry Expands Its Market

The Ministry of Industry continues to encourage domestic jewelry industry players to maximize their market potential, both domestically and globally. To support the performance of the national economy, the Ministry actively promotes the expansion of market access for the jewelry industry by facilitating exhibitions both domestically and abroad. For instance, the Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industry (IKMA) participated in the Surabaya International Jewellery Fair (SIJF) 2023 by facilitating 20 jewelry industry players to showcase their outstanding products at this prestigious event.

In her opening remarks at SIJF 2023, the Director General of IKMA at the Ministry of Industry, stated that domestically produced jewelry products are now competitive on the global stage. This is evidenced by the value of jewelry and precious item exports for the period of January to July 2023, which reached USD 3.1 billion, with a trade surplus of USD 3 billion for this commodity. Key export destinations for jewelry from Indonesia include Singapore, the United States, Switzerland, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, Indonesia's market share in the global export of jewelry and precious items in 2022 reached 1.6%, ranking 17th among all exporting countries of such products. This market share has increased from the previous year when it was only 1.2%. This indicates that the Indonesian jewelry industry still has opportunities to continue growing and expanding its market share. In an era of globalization, technological advancements, and increasingly fierce competition, the Ministry of Industry is currently focused on boosting the performance of industries, including the jewelry sector. As one of the flagship industries of the national economy, the jewelry industry is also expected to have high added value and competitiveness. 20 SME jewelry makers participating in SIJF 2023 are showcasing outstanding jewelry items such as silver, pearls, gemstones, and precious stones from various regions in Indonesia. These facilitated SMEs consist of those proposed by regional Industry Departments and SMEs who registered online through a link that was published some time ago.
