Indonesia's substantial nickel reserves are fostering optimism among heavy equipment industry players, particularly in the backdrop of a promising commodity market. With Indonesia boasting 21 million metric tons of nickel reserves, the country holds a significant position as a key player in the global nickel industry, followed closely by Australia with 19 million metric tons, according to data from the US Geological Survey. Yulius Sikku, Director of Marketing at PT Gaya Makmur Tractors (GMTractors), emphasized that in addition to nickel reserves, commodity prices are also contributing to increased sales of heavy machinery.
The buoyant commodity prices present an opportunity for the growth of the heavy equipment industry. GMTractors, a distributor of heavy machinery used across various sectors like infrastructure, agriculture, forestry, mining, and more, is optimistic about achieving their sales target of approximately IDR 3 trillion this year. The company, headquartered in Jakarta, is the sole distributor of Wirtgen Group from Germany, a manufacturer of heavy machinery for various construction applications. They are also the distributor for Shantui and XCMG brands. GMTractors has gained trust from many parties, becoming the agent for various brands and recently securing the agency for the Italian-made Fiori mobile batching plant and the Austrian Remu bucket crusher.
