In response to the growing demand for fish consumption in Kabupaten Sleman and its surrounding areas, the local government has introduced innovative technologies to boost tilapia fish production. One such innovation is Silamanda, a variant of red tilapia created through crossbreeding, offering advantages such as rapid growth, disease resistance, and uniform red coloration. Additionally, the introduction of the Biola Delman system, a biofloc-based technology for tilapia farming, promises high stocking density, minimal water replacement, quick growth, and efficient feed conversion.
Bupati Sleman, Kustini, praised the efforts of the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries in enhancing tilapia production, with hopes that these technologies will positively impact the livelihoods of local fish farmers. However, Kustini emphasized the importance of promoting fish consumption, particularly among children, to enhance cognitive intelligence and contribute to their well-being as the future generation of Indonesia. By focusing on both increasing production and fostering a culture of fish consumption, Kabupaten Sleman aims to address the rising demand for fish and improve the overall quality of life in the region.
