Minister of Industry Encourages the Modification Industry to Support the Development of Electric Vehicles

Indonesia's Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, has expressed strong support for the country's vehicle modification industry, emphasizing its role in enhancing creativity, innovation, and economic value. He emphasized that the government backs this industry's growth and noted its potential to not only drive creativity but also to create a multiplier effect by fostering the development of the aftermarket vehicle component sector, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Furthermore, it provides an opportunity for the expansion of workshops specializing in converting vehicles to electric power, aligning with the country's clean energy initiatives.

To boost the development of the modification industry, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has introduced National Competency Standards (SKKNI) for the Vehicle Modification Industry and designed competency-based training programs. These efforts aim to enhance the competencies of professionals in the modification industry, covering knowledge, skills, expertise, and relevant work ethics.

Minister Agus praised the National Modificator & Aftermarket Association (NMAA) for its consistent organization of modification exhibitions in Indonesia. He encouraged NMAA to become a Professional Certification Institution (LSP) for the vehicle modification industry, including electric vehicle conversions, aligning with the country's "Clean Indonesia" program promoting the use of electric vehicles. The Indonesia Modification and Lifestyle Expo (IMX) 2023, with its theme "The Future of Creativity," is seen as a vision for the modification industry's development in Indonesia, combining creativity, innovation, and the nation's rich cultural diversity to create modified works that can compete internationally. The event is expected to promote Indonesia's automotive industry globally and showcase the creative talents of Indonesians while contributing to the country's economic growth.
