Crab Exports from Cirebon Reach 50 Tons Annually

The Department of Food Security and Fisheries (DKPP) of Cirebon Regency, West Java, has reported that the catch of crabs in the region has been successfully exported to global markets, with an annual figure of 50 tons. Some of it is exported to Japan, Korea, and China. Specifically, for crabs, there is a fish apartment supported by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in Mundu, which amounts to around 50 tons per year. While the export figure might be relatively small compared to other regions, it still has a significant impact on the economy of the local fishermen in Cirebon. In addition to crabs, the production of captured fish in Cirebon is also relatively high and is estimated to have increased by five percent compared to several years ago.

Based on data from reports at seven fish auction sites (TPI) in Bungko-Losari, the production of captured fish in Cirebon Regency reached 39,000 tons in 2022. For the progress in 2023, the target will be matched or exceeded. The production of captured fish in their area is currently being disrupted due to weather factors, leading to a decrease in production. To boost production, environmentally friendly fishing equipment is provided to nine joint business groups (KUB) in Cirebon. So far, the fishery products in Cirebon Regency have been marketed in several regions, and the economic conditions of the fishermen have improved. The marketing has been very good and has improved the livelihoods of the fishermen in Cirebon.
