Agricultural Exports Contribute USD 390.2 Million

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that agricultural exports in August 2023 increased compared to the previous month, with a growth rate of 3.36%. The agricultural sector contributed USD 390.2 million according to the Acting Head of BPS during an online press conference on Friday, September 15, 2023. In July 2023, agricultural exports were recorded at USD 377.5 million, resulting in an increase of USD 12.7 million in agricultural export performance in August 2023. She stated that non-oil and gas exports in August 2023 reached USD 20.69 billion, showing a 5.35% increase compared to the previous month. The export performance in August was driven by an increase in non-oil and gas exports, especially in the categories of metal ores, fats, and vegetable animal oils. BPS also highlighted the increase in palm oil exports. Amalia mentioned that the value of palm oil exports in August 2023 increased by 5.32% compared to the previous month, with a total share of 11.60%.

The monthly increase in the value of palm oil exports is attributed to the increase in export volume by approximately 27.74 tons. Palm oil is a plantation commodity managed by the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) through the Smallholder Oil Palm Rejuvenation Program (PSR). In 2022, the plantation sector was the largest contributor to exports, amounting to IDR 600.5 trillion, contributing 88.11% to total exports. Head of the Public Relations and Information Bureau at the Ministry of Agriculture, stated that plantation commodities have always been the cornerstone of exports to strengthen the national economy. Plantation crops also contribute to employment throughout Indonesia. Key plantation commodities such as palm oil, rubber, coconut, coffee, cocoa, tea, spices, and others remain our focus for export growth.
