An open meeting titled "Turismo, innovazione e sfida EcoDigital" was held on May 8th in Naples, promoted by Fondazione UniVerde, Rete Italia #EcoDigital, and the Bachelor's Degrees in Hospitality Management, Mediterranean Gastronomic Sciences, and the Youth Observatory (based at the Department of Social Sciences) of the University of Naples Federico II. The event was broadcast live on Radio Radicale. The meeting highlighted the potential of digital technologies in regulating tourist flows and promoting measurable sustainability, while also mitigating the risks of overtourism and enhancing the value of rural and inner areas.
Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples and the Metropolitan City, emphasized the need for sustainable tourism and a credible EcoDigital transition to meet the new demands of growing tourism. He considered tourism a strategic asset for the economy of the territory and stressed the importance of preserving the environment as a resource. The innovative courses in Hospitality Management and Mediterranean Gastronomic Sciences at the University of Naples Federico II aim to produce multidisciplinary professionals with solid scientific and cultural expertise in territorial specificities, values, and production processes associated with the hospitality industry. Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, President of the Fondazione UniVerde and promoter of Opera2030 and the EcoDigital network, highlighted the potential of EcoDigital, innovative, solidary, cultural, and enogastronomic tourism, particularly in Naples, Campania, and southern Italy. He emphasized the importance of new qualified professional figures in the tourism sector, promoting hospitality excellence, good food, and territorial peculiarities.
