The Indonesian Seaweed Association (ARLI) is collaborating with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Washington DC to promote and campaign Indonesian seaweed and its products to the American market. ARLI Chairman Safari Azis stated that the export trend of seaweed to the US is positive and increasing. In 2022, Indonesia exported 6,703,140 kilograms of seaweed to the US, a 7.5% increase compared to 2021. The value also increased by 33%, from USD 14,478,349 in 2021 to USD 21,712,221 in 2022. The promotion and campaign by ARLI, in collaboration with various parties, have contributed to the increase in seaweed export.
The promotion and socialization activity was held during the Around The World Embassy Tour (AWET), as part of the White Campaign, aiming to ensure Agar-agar and Carrageenan remain on the organic product list of the National Organic Standard Board (NOSB) United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its 2023 evaluation, which will be valid until 2028. The event was attended by more than 5,100 American visitors and featured various Indonesian export products, including instant noodles, snacks, coffee, tea, tropical seaweed, and its processed products, such as Agar-Agar and Carrageenan.
