Indonesia plans to expand the export market for furniture and homeware products to the Middle East and India. Until now, Europe and America have been Indonesia's main export destinations for these products. However, demand from America and Europe has been declining. According to Putu Juli Ardika, the Director-General of Agro Industry at the Ministry of Industry, the government has formed an export task force under the coordination of the Minister of Economy. The task force is exploring expanding the market for furniture exports beyond America and Europe to other countries such as ASEAN, India, the Middle East, and several other Asian countries.
In addition, Indonesia's furniture industry still faces several challenges and obstacles, including domestic supply chain issues related to the availability of raw materials, technology and human resources, and the implementation of the Timber Legality Verification System (SVLK). However, the government hopes to improve the global market and increase the domestic market for Indonesian furniture products through initiatives like the Indonesia Meubel & Design Expo-IFFINA 2023 in September 2023.
