Government Offers Incentives for Textile Industry as Export Trend Grows, says Minister Luhut

The Indonesian government is preparing various incentives for the textile industry as the export and import trends of Indonesian textile products have increased significantly after the Covid-19 pandemic. Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordination, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, believes that the development of the textile industry has the potential to provide a profitable market in Indonesia, and the government will continue to reform investment policy to attract new investors.

The government's effort to anticipate disruptions in the textile industry due to declining export orders has led to President Joko Widodo's instruction to redirect textile exports to the domestic market. Meanwhile, the domestic market has been flooded with imported secondhand clothes, particularly from China, prompting the government to ban their sale. The Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, and the Customs Office have seized and destroyed illegal imported secondhand clothes, while the Attorney General's Office and the police have investigated illegal importers.
