The economic potential of the tourism and creative economy sector is estimated to reach IDR 335.3 trillion during the 2023 Eid al-Fitr holiday, making it a locomotive for Indonesia's economic recovery. This was stated by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, during "The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno" hybrid event on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy conducted a survey online and found that the average spending of tourists during the 2023 Eid al-Fitr holiday is IDR 2,708,732, higher than the initial estimate of only IDR 1.9 million. If this amount is multiplied by the predicted national movement potential during the holiday season of 123.8 million people, the projected economic turnover is estimated to reach IDR 335.3 trillion.
The top 10 destinations visited by domestic tourists during the Eid al-Fitr holiday in 2023 include Malioboro, Ciwidey, Lembang, Puncak-Bogor, Borobudur, and Dieng, among others. The data shows that the holiday season is a proven opportunity to boost the economy of Indonesia, and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will continue to work with various parties to ensure that the turnover of IDR 335.3 trillion will have a positive impact on the community's economy. The official data on the number of people traveling during the holiday season is still awaited to calculate the exact economic impact.
