Academics Evaluate Job Creation Law as Helping Economic Growth

The lifting of social restrictions in Indonesia should not stall the country's economic activities, given the economy's previous slump following the Covid-19 pandemic. The enactment of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation gives hope for stimulating national industrial movement and investment.

According to macroeconomist Teuku Riefky, the law will significantly impact Indonesia's economy if the implementation is consistent and well executed. Riefky claims that the various rules in the legal product will encourage Indonesia's economic growth. The law aims to regulate labor, investment, and business, providing legal certainty, driving investment, and converting informal micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) into the formal sector.

Law Professor Nindyo Pramono stated that the Omnibus Law on Job Creation's approval by the DPR shows that both the government and the DPR agreed with the substance of the law. According to Pramono, the Omnibus Law will simplify the regulatory process, provide legal certainty, and support economic growth, especially with regard to the ease of doing business. However, post-enactment socialization and public education regarding the law's impacts are necessary to ensure compliance.
