According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of foreign tourists (wisman) visiting Indonesia in March 2023 reached 809,960 or an increase of 15.39% compared to the previous month. Compared to the same month in 2022, this figure increased by 470.37%, indicating that the recovery of the tourism sector in Indonesia is still ongoing. However, BPS Head Margo Yuwono stated that the number of foreign tourist visits has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels.
Margo also mentioned that the recovery of the tourism sector is reflected in the cumulative increase in foreign tourist visits from January to March 2023, which reached 2.25 million visits or an increase of 508.87% compared to the same period in 2022. The majority of visits through the main entry gate were made by air transport, contributing 78.85%, while sea and land transportation contributed only 19.32% and 1.83% respectively.
