The Indonesian government is taking serious steps towards developing electric vehicles and their ecosystem in the country. To support the local battery industry and renewable energy, the government has strengthened its cooperation with Australia. The Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, revealed that this collaboration is essential because Australia has lithium reserves, which is an important component in producing electric batteries.
Bahlil added that this partnership could position Indonesia as one of the largest electric battery producers in the world. This is good news considering the rapid growth of electric vehicles globally. Indonesia has chosen to develop electric vehicle batteries based on nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) technology. With good cooperation between Indonesia and Australia, Bahlil believes that the two countries can become significant players in the industry.
