Indonesia has successfully become an official partner country at the Hannover Messe 2023, the world's largest technology exhibition. The country has attracted investments worth over IDR 30 trillion, including commitments from MARS-ENVOTEC, a technology company from Singapore and Germany, to recycle plastic and food waste. The company will build a recycling plant worth USD 60 million in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, and another plant worth USD 140 million in Pekanbaru, Riau. Both plants will employ a total of 500 people and process up to 1,000 tons of waste per day.
Indonesia's structured and innovative waste management, particularly in Lombok and Pekanbaru, makes it an attractive partner for foreign investors. The government has been supportive, and the Ministry of Industry has facilitated foreign investment in Indonesia. In addition, PT Daur Ulang Gemilang and PT Bumi Lancar, two Indonesian recycling companies, have agreed to cooperate with Singaporean recycling company Indus Venture Ea Ltd to recycle polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic packaging, with a capacity of 25,000 tons of PET production in Jombang, East Java. The collaboration will supply plastic waste from Indonesia's recycling industry to produce packaging that can be reused by the food and beverage industry in Indonesia.
