North Sumatra Exports 17.8 Tons of Larva Flour Worth IDR 692.62 million

On April 14, 2023, the Agricultural Quarantine Office in Belawan facilitated the export of 17.8 tons of larva flour to the United States. The flour, made from processed fly larvae, is a high-value commodity from the livestock subsector of North Sumatra province, and this is the first time it has been exported. The flour is used as a food additive to improve the growth, nutrition, feed conversion, and health of various animals, such as dogs, cats, fish, chickens, and other poultry. The flour, worth around Rp692.62 million, belongs to PT Biocycle Indo (BI) and was packaged in 25-kilogram jute bags, as requested by the destination country. Prior to export, the agricultural quarantine officials examined the media carriers, including the required documents for the destination country and provided a KH-12 Certificate (Animal Product Sanitation Certificate).
The head of Baratan, Bambang, stated that every commodity transported by sea and air must be inspected by their office, from agricultural to animal products. The inspection is conducted in a laboratory or by observation to ensure the acceptance of the importing country. The larva flour exported to America is unique due to its various benefits for animal feed.
