On April 15, 2023, during a talk show hosted by the Forum Muda Inspiratif Balikpapan, Indrayani, a lecturer at Balikpapan University, discussed the economic impact of Kalimantan Timur being appointed as the new capital city of Indonesia (IKN). Indrayani emphasized that the IKN would reduce social inequality and provide new economic opportunities for the region. She also stated that the government's serious attention to the eastern region of Indonesia was evidenced by the decision to move the capital city from Java to Kalimantan Timur.
Indrayani stressed the importance of developing a qualified workforce in Kalimantan Timur to compete with the millions of people who would come to the IKN for economic opportunities. Eka Nurjannah, another speaker at the event, echoed Indrayani's sentiment, stating that the youth must seize the economic opportunities provided by the IKN and improve their personal skills to compete with outsiders. The Forum Muda Inspiratif Balikpapan hosts regular events to remind the youth not to overlook the IKN's presence and to take advantage of the opportunities it provides in various sectors, such as technology, education, social, and economic.
