Bengkulu's Huge Potential for Islamic Economy Development

The province of Bengkulu in Indonesia has significant potential for the development of Islamic economy. This aligns with the national policy direction where the development of Islamic economy and finance in Indonesia is expected to be at the forefront and leading globally, as per The State of the Global Islamic Economy Report 2020-2021, which ranked Indonesia fourth in terms of the best development of Islamic economy in the world. Governor Rohidin Mersyah of Bengkulu is confident that the province's resources, including natural resources and financial institutions, can contribute to driving the Islamic economy in Indonesia. He emphasized that Islamic economy has become a societal demand, where Shariah-based approaches can be implemented in economic management at both national and regional levels, with the goal of achieving blessings and prosperity for the community.

Sutan Emir Hidayat, the Director of Shariah Ecosystem Infrastructure Management of the Executive Committee of the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS), commended Bengkulu province for its potential in Islamic economic development and its prompt response in following up on the progress of the Islamic economy. He appreciated the good synergy between the provincial government and various stakeholders, including vertical units of KNEKS such as Bank Indonesia and OJK. Emir added that currently, 13 provinces have formed the Committee for Regional Islamic Economy and Finance (KDEKS), and Bengkulu province is expected to become the 14th province to establish a KDEKS. The event was attended by Darjana, the Head of Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Bengkulu, Hamka Sabri, the Secretary of Bengkulu Province, and representatives from relevant agencies.
