Indonesia at the Hannover Messe 2023: Opening the Gate for Industrial Technology Investment

Indonesia is again trusted as a partner country in the Hannover Messe. The world's largest industrial technology exhibition event taking place in Hannover, Germany, on April 17-21 2023. As a country that is developing economically and technologically, this is a great opportunity to introduce and showcase the latest industrial innovations and technologies for investors, especially from Europe .

The Director General of KPAII, Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Eko S.A. Cahyanto said that this position was very strategic for Indonesia. Due to the trust of the organizers and the blessing of Germany, it will be a great opportunity for Indonesia to introduce industrial capabilities in control and potential as a supply chain for industry.
"Apart from introducing the industry, we will of course also encourage cooperation in order to obtain the latest technology, increase human resources and encourage investment," he said in the FMB9 Dialogue with the theme 'Future Industry with an Environmental Perspective of Hannover Messe 2023', Monday (27/3).

Still according to Eko, the partner country status at this event also shows the 4.0 innovation initiatives that are being carried out by Indonesia. To support this, the government has formed a special committee and prepared various aspects, including curation of exhibitors, business meetings, conferences and investment clinic facilities. Previously, in a world that was in a transition process, the government had also done many things to improve the investment climate, including improving regulations and providing more investor-friendly tax instruments.

Eko explained that the Hannover Messe event is generally held to bring together two large groups, namely those who are capable of creating industrial technology and those who are users of these products. However, at this event, Indonesia wants to demonstrate its ability to master innovation which involves not only creators and users of industrial technology, but also other important parts. Like the banking sector which is able to support and become part of the industrial ecosystem. Previously, in 2021 Indonesia was also selected as a partner country at this event. It's just that, because of the pandemic, all activities take place digitally. However, Indonesia has still managed to demonstrate its superiority in the industrial sector and has received substantial investment and cooperation commitments.

Natural Resource Optimization
At the same forum, Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment/BKPM Nurul Ichwan, said that many European companies were interested in investing in Indonesia after the pandemic was gradually recovering. This is because Indonesia has good natural resources and is making downstream efforts.

“Of the many interested investors, most of them are from the automotive industry. Collaboration with European companies, especially in the automotive sector, will be very important considering the technology currently developing, namely electric cars," he said.
It is planned that the government will bring in 157 exhibitors, including associations which have more than 500 member companies. They will show the world that Indonesia has created a good platform and the right climate for investment and industrial cooperation.

As a representative of one of the associations that will take part in the 2023 Hannover Messe, Komp. Foreign Relations of the Association of Indonesian Palm Oil Producers (GAPKI), Lolita Bangun, emphasized that this exhibition would be a big opportunity for her party to be affected by trade restrictions from the European Union.

"GAPKI wants to provide an understanding to the world regarding changes in the palm oil industry towards clean energy. They want to ensure that industry players and the public understand GAPKI's commitment to the environment," he said.
It is hoped that by demonstrating that the palm oil industry can be carried out by taking into account broader environmental and social aspects, it can again boost palm oil exports to European countries. Moreover, this commodity is highly dependent on exports, with 16 million workers involved.

With the spirit of the transition that is currently being carried out, Indonesia is confident that it can show its potential and superiority as a country that is ready to advance in the industrial and renewable energy fields in the future.
