Targeting Fisheries to dominate Exports, Maritime Potential Reaches IDR 18,000 Trillion

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) targets domestic aquaculture commodities to dominate the export market within the next 5 to 10 years.
Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono explained that Indonesia was able to become a champion in aquaculture, because its potential is very large. There are five main commodities that are the focus, namely shrimp, lobster, crab, seaweed, and tilapia.
"If we are strong in five to 10 years from these five, then we will become champions," said Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in a written statement received by apahabar.com in Jakarta, Wednesday (1/3).
To achieve this target, continued Trenggono, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is implementing a blue economy policy strategy in the form of developing environmentally friendly marine, coastal and inland aquaculture.
From the aquaculture sector which is the future of Indonesia, Trenggono said he would develop a strategy to become a winner in the global market.

"We can already produce broodstock shrimp, we have tissue culture technology, how can all of this support the needs of domestic cultivators so that their productivity increases," he explained.
Particularly for the shrimp commodity, which has been the mainstay of Indonesia's fishery product exports, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has implemented a strategy of modeling and revitalizing traditional ponds. A 69 hectare modeling shrimp pond is being built in Kebumen, Central Java and is ready to be built in other places.

Through modeling shrimp ponds, Trenggono hopes that the development of ponds in Indonesia follows existing standards, so productivity is good and environmentally friendly.
Then for other commodities, KKP has an Aquaculture Fisheries Village program which has been implemented at 130 points, and in the future the scale of the aquaculture village will be increased, so that not only the upstream production process grows but also the downstream derivative businesses. In a different place, the Indonesian President The Maritime Pilots Association (INAMPA) Pasoroan Herman Harianja assesses the maritime economic potential in Indonesia from 11 sectors having an economic value of more than IDR 18,000 trillion per year.
"The potential for the maritime sector is enormous, that's why the government is targeting Indonesia to become the world's maritime axis in the future," Herman said during his visit to Makassar, South Sulawesi, Tuesday (28/2).
He said, apart from the potential for the maritime economy, there is still a significant potential for the logistics business, which is around IDR 2,500 trillion per year.
"Therefore, it certainly requires a reliable sea transportation system for these business activities," he also said.
According to him, the 21st century belongs to Asia Pacific, and the business center will continue to develop, especially in the maritime business sector. Efforts to achieve this, said Herman, need to be supported by the strengthening of infrastructure, superstructure, systems and information technology which is very vital.

This is intended to improve maritime services, for the sake of effectiveness and efficiency, so that they have competitive global competitiveness, both in the port sector and other maritime ecosystems.
Apart from that, it is also necessary to strengthen and develop maritime human resources, both in terms of quality and quantity, and need to get top priority to realize Indonesia as the world's maritime axis.
