The Ministry of Industry Speeds Up the Performance of the Automotive Industry for the Export Market

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) focuses on continuing to boost the performance of the national automotive industry so that it can be more globally competitive. Moreover, the business prospects for the automotive industry in the country are getting brighter in line with its sales growth which continues to increase significantly every year, including the efforts of a number of manufacturers who are increasingly aggressive in penetrating and expanding their export markets. "As long as our automotive products can be accepted by the international market, it means that we have high competitiveness. For example, we have exported cars to Australia, a country that has high standards," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the First Export Ceremony of Toyota Local Electrification Vehicles from Indonesia to the World, in Jakarta, Tuesday (21/2). The Minister of Industry stated, the current strength of the national automotive industry is supported by 23 companies producing four or more wheeled vehicles with a total capacity of 2.35 million units per year. "Direct employment absorption in the national automotive industry has reached 38 thousand people, as well as absorption of more than 1.5 million workers along the industrial value chain including in the IKM sector in the component sector," he said. The Minister of Industry emphasized that the national four-wheeled vehicle manufacturing sector has succeeded in becoming a foreign exchange hero with the ability to export Completely Build Up (CBU) products of 473 thousand car units in 2022, an increase of 60.7 percent compared to 2021 which amounted to 294 thousand. The 2022 achievement is worth USD 5.7 billion, an increase of 63.5 percent compared to 2021 of USD 3.5 billion. "Based on this brilliant performance, it can be concluded that the development in the automotive sector in terms of export performance in the form of CBU has been going very well," he said.
