Fisheries Export Value Translucent USD6.24 Billion, Blue Economy Potential Greater?

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said the value of fisheries exports in Indonesia exceeded USD 6.24 billion.
This potential will support blue economy policies, especially maintaining ocean health and accelerating a sustainable ocean economy.
There are five main programs in the policy. First, the addition of the marine protected area area. In this program, his party said it would expand and establish new conservation areas every year, protect carbon stock areas, protect biodiversity, improve the quality of conservation areas and involve communities in conservation areas to manage and maintain the area.

"The target we want to achieve is to increase and expand the marine conservation area to 30% in 2045, which is to reach 97.5 million hectares of marine conservation area," said Minister of KKP Sakti Wahyu Trenggono at the 2023 DPP IKA Undip National Work Meeting in Jakarta, Saturday (25/2/2023).
The second program is quota-based measured fishing with a fishing strategy based on catch quotas (output control) and fishing zones, landing fish at designated fishing ports in accordance with the permits granted, data collection systems with information technology, satellite-based integrated surveillance, and spatial, increasing added value and market access, empowering local fishermen and developing advanced fishing villages
"Measured fishing policies will provide a multiplier effect to the economy, such as the need for labor, the fishing industry and other fishing activities," he said
Sakti continued, the third program is the development of marine, coastal and land cultivation in a sustainable manner. "This policy will encourage sustainable and environmentally friendly cultivation, and focus on superior commodities such as shrimp, crab, lobster, seaweed and tilapia," he said.
The fourth strategy is the management and supervision of the coast and small islands, one of which is carried out by providing regulations to protect the area.

"The target to be achieved is repairing damaged small islands, protecting the outermost small island ecosystems, limiting extractive use, and monitoring and evaluation,"
Finally, Sakti said the last program focused on cleaning up plastic waste in the sea with a target of being free of waste in 2040 and forming a circular economy in handling plastic waste.
"I hope that there will be good synergy and collaboration between KKP and IKA Undip in optimizing the use of sustainable marine and fisheries resources to increase the contribution to national economic growth," he concluded.
