Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Harvick Hasnul Qolbi inaugurated the Pineapple Plant Cultivation area in Karang Jaya Village, East Prabumulih District, South Sumatra. There, the Wamentan also planted 45 hectares of land.
According to Deputy Minister Harvick, the pineapple commodity is a strategic commodity that has great potential in increasing exports. He hopes that the local government will support the long-term program of the Triple Export Movement (Geratieks).
"Concretely, we can invite entrepreneurs here to utilize pineapple fiber. As we saw earlier, not only fresh pineapple but also off-farm or downstream products can be even faster," said Harvick, Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
Furthermore, the Wamentan also inspected the stands at the event location and saw the pineapple processing first hand. The results of processing pineapple leaf fiber can be a variety of ready-to-use products, such as woven fabrics, clothing, tablecloths, and also various bags.
"What is certain is that we will continue to push for pineapple production to continue to grow and become our mainstay commodity," he said.
Mayor of Prabumulih, Ridho Yahya, said that the pineapple commodity from his area is a quality product that is difficult to obtain export permits to Singapore. However, the amount of production currently available is still limited because it is only 100 kg per month.
"Meanwhile, the total demand is 2 tons per month. In the future we hope that assistance from the central government, starting with pineapple seeds and management tools, can boost pineapple productivity in Prabumulih," he said.
For information, Prabumulih is the largest pineapple producer in South Sumatra. Prabumulih's original pineapple has a sweet taste and the pineapple waste can be used to make woven fabrics.
For information, during this visit the Deputy Minister was accompanied by Alikota Prabumulih Ridho Yahya, Deputy Mayor Prabumulih Andriansyah Fikri, Deputy Chairperson of the South Sumatra DPRD Giri Ramanda N Kiemas, and Head of the South Sumatra Food Crops and Horticulture Service Bambang Pramono
