Great Potential, Indonesia Enters the Top 10 World Octopus Exporting Countries

Indonesia is one of the 10 largest octopus exporting countries in the world. Currently, global market demand continues to increase. Meanwhile, based on data from 2016 to 2019, the annual transaction value of Indonesian octopuses reaches US$98 million.
This was conveyed by the Director of Fish Resources at the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ridwan Mulyana, at a stakeholder meeting to launch the Octopus Fishery Improvement Program (FIP), as reported by RRI.co.id, Thursday.
"Indonesia's position as an octopus exporter is side by side with the world's main octopus importing countries such as the United States, Italy to China," said Ridwan. Indonesian octopus fishery products have also entered the European market.
"Together with the US, Italy and China as the main importers that produce around 98 million US Dollars per year," he said.

Previously, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) pushed for improvements in octopus fisheries governance in the country. This is to create sustainable fisheries management practices and prevent over fishing.
Improvement in governance is not only in sustainable fishing, but also in production processes that have more added value. Such as processing octopus into flower-shaped frozen octopus products that are popular with consumers.
"So this is important, while we haven't led to an increase in catching efort and so on, we avoid over fishing and so on. Then it needs a fip for this octopus
