The Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto projects that the Bali Turtles Special Economic Zone (SEZ) can contribute to the country's foreign exchange in the long term. Cumulatively, the value until 2052 is estimated at Rp. 477 trillion. With a total investment value of IDR 104 trillion, in addition to the foreign exchange, it is also expected that KEK Turtles will be able to absorb 99,853 workers. "The total investment that can reach IDR 104 trillion in the next 30 years, absorption is 99,853 until 2052," he said in a written statement, Saturday (4/2/2023).
Bali Turtles SEZ will develop international-class luxury tourism activities. Includes the Integrated Marina Area, center for excellence for education and tech park, and lifestyle wellness center.
In the meantime, the government has launched a short-term investment plan for the Bali Turtles SEZ in the next 5 years with a budget of up to IDR 12 trillion. "In the short term, the first five years, we hope that the investment of IDR 12 trillion will create jobs for around 5,000 people," he added.
Airlangga hopes that the presence of the Bali Turtles SEZ which was recently inaugurated can complement the existence of the Sanur SEZ, as well as make Bali's economy stronger. In addition, the two SEZs are also an alternative for Bali's economy besides relying on tourism from abroad. During the Covid-19 pandemic or in 2020, Bali's economy experienced a contraction or 9.31 percent compared to the previous year's period. This slowdown repeated in 2021, although the minus improved to 2.47 percent. Only in 2022 will economic growth return to a positive level. "Of course this economic area is expected to complement the health economic area in Sanur. Therefore, Bali is one of the provinces that has two SEZs, and both of them support the tourism industry. It is hoped that with these two SEZs, Bali's economy will become more sustainable," said Airlangga.
The government through the SEZ National Council has officially designated the Bali Turtles as a SEZ, but the official announcement is still awaiting the presence of a Government Regulation (PP). With the addition of the Bali Turtles SEZ, the number of SEZs in Indonesia is currently officially 20 points. It consists of 10 Industrial SEZs and 10 Tourism SEZs.
