Booked Exports of IDR 85.5 Trillion, the Automotive Industry Becomes a Foreign Exchange Hero

The automotive industry in the country in 2022 will show quite a brilliant performance. Inflationary pressures in various countries and the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war had no effect on the rate of Indonesia's car exports.
"National four-wheeled vehicle manufacturing has succeeded in becoming a foreign exchange hero with the ability to export CBU of 473 thousand units of cars, an increase of 60.7% compared to 2021 which amounted to 294 thousand," said Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, spokesman for the Ministry of Industry, quoted on Wednesday (1/1/2019). 2/2023). In terms of value, based on BPS data in 2022, CBU exports will reach USD 5.7 billion IDR 85.5 trillion (exchange rate IDR 15,000) or an increase of 63.5% compared to 2021 which reached USD 3.5 billion. "If the export and import values of CBU vehicles are compared in terms of value, it produces a foreign exchange surplus of USD 3.4 billion, an increase of 64% compared to 2021 which amounted to USD 2 billion," he said. Based on these data, according to Febri, it can be concluded that the development of the automotive sector for CBU's export performance is already moving in the right direction. Indonesia's automotive exports have reached more than 80 countries.

However, there are still many challenges faced by the automotive industry. Febri said, some of the challenges were related to the availability of raw materials, shortage of semi-conductors, logistical and transportation constraints, and high energy costs.
