Strengthening Exports at the Border, Ministry of Trade Establishes Export Promotion Center in Entikong

Various breakthroughs to increase national exports continue to be carried out by the Ministry of Trade. The latest breakthrough was made by establishing an export promotion center (Marketing Point) at the Entikong State Border Post (PLBN), Sanggau, West Kalimantan. The signing of the memorandum of understanding was signed by the Director General of National Export Development Didi Sumedi with the Governor of West Kalimantan Sutarmidji, Monday (29/11). "This signing is the basic foundation in carrying out efforts to increase exports of products originating from the Province of West Kalimantan, especially through the Entikong PLBN. In addition, this signing is also a form of synergy between institutions in the national export sector," said Didi. Through the memorandum of agreement, the Ministry of Trade is tasked with coordinating the establishment of an export promotion center, including organizing various programs to increase market share for national products and/or regional superior products. Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of West Kalimantan is responsible for providing regional support for the implementation of the export promotion center.

Later, on a regular basis, at the Marketing Point, capacity building for business actors, product development, and export promotion will be carried out by the Ministry of Trade in synergy with various other stakeholders. Marketing Point is an export development facilitation unit in national border areas to increase exports of regional and national superior products to neighboring countries and substitute imported products for the local community. In 2021, Marketing Points will be established at two borders, namely PLBN Entikong, West Kalimantan and PLBN Motaain, East Nusa Tenggara. "We really appreciate the extraordinary cooperation and support from all parties, especially the West Kalimantan Provincial Government and its staff, the National Border Management Agency (BNPP), and the Entikong PLBN so that the establishment of the Entikong Marketing Point can be realized without significant obstacles," said Didi. The establishment of the Marketing Point in Entikong, continued Didi, is intended to encourage economic growth in the border area of West Kalimantan Province and also as an effort to increase market share for regional superior products in neighboring countries. "As directed by the Minister of Trade to continue to make various efforts to develop exports, we hope that through this Marketing Point we can maximize the promotion of Indonesian products to neighboring countries so that they can improve the regional economy. In the future, it is hoped that we will be able to maximize market penetration to countries directly bordering us,” continued Didi.

The Governor of West Kalimantan Province, Sutarmidji, said that the West Kalimantan Provincial Government supports and appreciates the development of border areas. Collaboration between agencies is very much needed, especially in the development of key products that are very much needed by the Malaysian people. "The government must be observant in looking at market opportunities related to products that are in demand in Malaysia," he added. In addition, as a form of guidance for business players, on Tuesday (30/11) a Trade Representative Market Information Forum was held at PLBN Entikong which presented the Kuala Lumpur Trade Attache, Experts in Product Standardization at the Surabaya Export Center, and Design Experts from Indonesia Design Development. Jakarta Center. "Hopefully the establishment of this Marketing Point can increase the competitiveness of business actors in the Entikong border area and encourage the export growth of West Kalimantan's superior products, especially through the Entikong border area, as well as become a model in the development of other border areas throughout Indonesia," concluded Didi. In the period January-September 2021, the trade balance of West Kalimantan Province recorded a fairly high surplus of USD 1.27 billion. In that period, the trade balance of West Kalimantan Province grew by 3.51 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
