Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate said the development of 5G networks could have a big impact on Indonesia. Referring to data released by the Bandung Institute of Technology, Johnny said that 5G is predicted to contribute to the economy of around Rp. 2,800 trillion and become a large investment space in the future. "Or equivalent to 9.5 percent of Indonesia's GDP in 2021 to 2030, so the investment space has enormous potential in the 5G sector," Johnny said at the Virtual Cross Technology Solutions Day 2021 event, Tuesday (23/11).
5G technology, said Johnny, helps the government to bridge the gap in information and communication technology infrastructure and the development of digital transformation, so as to improve people's ability and literacy to use technology more adaptively. Meanwhile, President Director of PT Lintas Teknologi Indonesia Muhamad Paisol said that currently 5G will be a catalyst for the digital revolution, where 5G promises much faster speeds, with much larger capacity and very small latency. "Of course, with the 5G network, there will be many business opportunities in the enterprise or B2B world, so that investment in deploying a 5G network is truly a massive economic revival. The next question is, is 5G network available in Indonesia at this time and what applications can be used?” he said.
Furthermore, Paisol believes the digital economy will be a major factor in economic development in Indonesia. The digital economy has proven to be one of the mainstays of the current national economic recovery, according to him. To optimize the potential of the digital economy, there are a number of things that must be improved, including telecommunication infrastructure and protection of digital consumers themselves. "For that, support and investment are needed not only in strengthening the digital ecosystem, but also in supporting infrastructure," said Paisol.
