What has appeared to the public are 3 international companies that are approaching Indonesia.


The first is an investment from PT HKML Battery Indonesia, which is a joint venture of South Korean companies Hyundai and LG. The company has just built an electric battery factory in Karawang with an investment of Rp 15.62 trillion. Then, there is also a factory that will be built by a Chinese company, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL). The plan is that the construction of a factory from CATL will be carried out in the near future, the target is to do it in the rest of this year. CATL's investment reached Rp 72.4 trillion. Most recently, it was BASF's turn, a German chemical manufacturer who also wants to enter the electric battery industry in Indonesia. BASF plans to cooperate with Eramet, a French mining company. The two will cooperate to invest in a nickel-cobalt processing complex for the development of electric vehicles. The project includes the construction of High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) and Base Metal Refinery (BMR) plants.


The Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said it is most likely that in May next year electric cars will be produced in Indonesia. One of them is through Hyundai's factory in Karawang. "May 2022 at the latest, God willing, it will be in production. So the car is already patented. In his presentation, Toyota Motor Corporation made an investment commitment of Rp 63 trillion, until 2024 it will enter as much as Rp 28.3 trillion. Toyota will produce 10 hybrid electric car models, including 5 plug-in hybrid models. It was also mentioned that Toyota will help make the national product Kijang a hybrid electric car in 2022. And produce the Lexus UX300e battery electric vehicle in the same year. Then, Honda Motor Company is committed to inject funds of Rp 6.2 trillion, and will enter Rp 5.2 trillion until 2024. They will produce Brio, Mobilio, and hybrid electric car models. Next, there is Suzuki Motor Corporation which has an investment commitment of Rp 21 trillion and will enter Rp 1.2 trillion at the beginning. They will produce the Suzuki Ertiga Mild Hybrid in 2022, and the Suzuki XL7 Mild Hybrid in 2023. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motor Corporation provides an investment commitment of Rp 11.2 trillion until 2024. Later, Mitsubishi will produce Expander Hybrid in 2023. In his presentation, it was stated that there would be hundreds of countries that would become export markets for these products. From these investments, it is expected to absorb 9 thousand workers.
