The Maluku Provincial Government calls the fisheries sector in its region a leading commodity, and has great potential to continue to grow. Maluku Province Governor Murad Ismail said Maluku had been designated as the center of a national fish barn, where in the near future an integrated fishing port or an international fish market would be built. "We have prepared 700 hectares of land, the first phase is built of 200 hectares by the central government, which will become a new investment area for the fisheries and logistics sector in eastern Indonesia," said Murad during the East Indonesia Success Pacific Exposition 2021 event which was held virtually by Tribunnews.com, Monday (11/10/2021).
According to him, about 92 percent of Maluku's territory from a total of 1,350 islands is a water area and tuna and shrimp commodities are currently exported to various regions such as China, South Korea and the United States. "Therefore, trade and investment cooperation in fisheries in Maluku is very open," he said. In addition, said Murad, Maluku also has natural resources that have the potential for greater development such as nutmeg, clove, coconut plantations, mineral resources, and marine tourism. "The management is still limited, so that the opportunities for investors to invest in Maluku are getting bigger. We also have creative economy products and MSMEs such as typical Maluku weaving, processed heads, eucalyptus oil, and others," said Murad. Murad hopes that the participation of Maluku Province in the 2021 Pacific Exposition can increase commodity export trade transactions from Maluku and increase the number of foreign tourists. "We also hope that there will be cooperation in the field of technology in the development of human resources and cooperation in controlling the threat of climate change," he said.
