Director General of Livestock and Animal Health (Dirjen PKH) of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), Nasrullah said that Indonesia's poultry product exports from January to May 2021 reached 258.85 tons, an increase of 12.98 percent compared to the same period last year. This is based on fixed figures from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) processed by the Pusdatin and the Directorate General of PKH.
"The increase in the export volume of poultry products from January to May 2021, was followed by an increase in the export value of 5.2% compared to the same period the previous year, from the export value in 2020 of USD 841.4 thousand to USD 885.2 thousand in 2021. " said Nasrallah.
He explained, there are several Indonesian poultry exports to several countries at this time, namely in the form of live poultry such as DOC (Day Old Chick), processed chicken meat and eggs. The export destinations for Indonesian poultry products include Japan, Qatar, the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste (RDTL) Papua New Guinea and Myanmar.
Even processed Indonesian chicken meat products have also been approved for entry in the United Arab Emirates/UAE. Especially for exports to Japan, an inspection from the Japanese government is currently being prepared regarding the expansion of the types of products that can be exported, including chicken carcasses.
"The penetration of Indonesian processed chicken meat products in the international market shows that the product quality and animal health status as well as the Indonesian poultry food safety guarantee system have been accepted or recognized by developed countries," explained Nasrullah.
Furthermore, Nasrullah emphasized that the health status of animals is the main key to open export opportunities to other countries. Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture consistently develops and ensures updated information regarding animal health, quality, and safety guarantees for each product to be exported.
Currently, Indonesia's bird flu-free compartmentalization has been recognized by the World Animal Health Organization (OIE) in accordance with international standards. This can be proven by the publication of a list of Indonesian bird flu-free compartment business units on the OIE website.
In addition to continuing to encourage exports of Indonesian poultry products, the government through the Ministry of Agriculture also continues to increase the consumption of protein from poultry in the country. This effort is carried out through various promotional activities to increase the consumption of chicken meat and eggs, both those carried out by the government and non-government.
"During the current pandemic, we invite the public to continue to increase the consumption of chicken meat and eggs to increase endurance and immunity, especially during the current emergency PPKM," explained Nasrullah.
