A total of 72 e-commerce platforms will provide various promotions from May 5 to 13, 2021, as the government launched the Proud of Indonesian Products Day or Hari Bangga Buatan Indonesia. One of the promotions is free shipping which was expected to affect the public’s willingness to go on Eid homecoming.

“The promotion is hoped to induce people to refrain from having the Eid homecoming trip and encourage them to shop for Indonesian products,” said Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi in a written statement after the launch of the Proud of Indonesian Products Day in Jakarta, Monday, May 3, 2021.

In the launch, Lutfi, Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Minister Johnny G. Plate, and the Indonesian E-commerce Association (IdEA) chair Bima Laga signed a joint agreement on the national day which noted the provision of free shipping for orders up to a certain amount by online marketplaces.

The government launched the Proud of Indonesian Products Day in an effort to boost household consumption in the community particularly amid the government’s policy that bans Eid homecoming in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lutfi said the national day was in line with President Joko Widodo's order so that the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr 2021 could drive economic growth. “For this reason, several policies and programs need to be implemented so that public consumption can continue to increase amid the homecoming ban policy,” he said.
