The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is pushing small and medium batik enterprises to adopt the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) to enhance product quality, authenticity, and export competitiveness. By applying various certifications—such as SNI Batik, SKKNI for worker competency, Batikmark for originality, and green-industry as well as halal certifications—the ministry aims to guarantee that batik products stay true to tradition while meeting global market expectations.
This standardisation drive is part of a broader effort to preserve batik as a cultural heritage and strengthen its economic role. With standardisation, consumers and buyers—both domestic and international—can more easily distinguish genuine batik from printed imitations. In turn, certified batik products are more likely to access wider markets and build stronger brand trust.
